Technical Writer Opportunity
Iron Bow Technologies has an immediate need for an experienced Technical Writer interested in a permanent position in NW Washington, DC.
This position is currently remote and will transition to a hybrid of onsite and remote, before eventually returning to a full-time onsite position (no timeline in place yet)
Position Responsibilities:
- Responsible for technical writing to support development of standard operation procedures, training manuals, system/information brochures, eLearning, user guides, tip sheets, knowledge base articles, Wiki’s, etc.
- Develop and maintain procedures, processes and policies
- Capture and document technical process workflows
- Create documentation as it relates to computer operating systems, networks, storage, infrastructure hardware and data center
- Collaborate with project teams and engineering staff to develop course content and system documentation within agreed upon timelines
- Effective communication with project teams and client staff to understand topic that’s being supported
- Coordinating training programs with customers, including defining scope and content of training programs and scheduling training courses
- Ensure adherence to government mandated 508 compliance and web design best practices
- Adhere to documentation standards and make recommendations for improving standards
- Update and resolve assigned tickets that capture work assigned, and work completed
Required Experience / Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience in technical writing, as well as 3 years of experience supporting training and technical writing on complex and large-enterprise infrastructure environment
- Experience creating system-level documentation and creating training documents
- Experience working in team environments to gain insight and content
- Recent experience working with and supporting teams responsible for delivering customer training, along with developing course content to support training teams
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Visio, Adobe
- Working knowledge of ticketing systems for tracking work, such as Cherwell or ServiceNow
- Experience with technical applications/tools and image-capturing tools
- Experience with tools such as CaseMap, TextMap, TimeMap, QuickBooks, Summation, Track-It!
- Solid knowledge of technical writing standards, documentation process and system / software engineering process
- Knowledge and familiarity of ITIL processes is strongly preferred
- Bachelor's in IT or related field (8 years’ experience in lieu of BS; 4 years with AS)
- Must be a US citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance (ability to be obtain a higher clearance level, Secret or Top Secret is desirable)
