General Statement of Duties

The Communications Writer works with the CareOregon Marketing Manager and the coordinated care organization (CCO) leadership to support the marketing and communications efforts of the CCO and other CareOregon lines of business. This includes researching, writing and editing communication materials for internal and external communications; planning the communications; and e stablishing relationships with the various target audience s , the media and other opinion leaders . The position partners in brainstorming, creating and transforming ideas into strategic communications for marketing efforts including print, direct mail and digital (website and social media). The work includes cross-functional collaboration with internal and external team members and agencies.


Essential Position Functions


Writing and Media Relations

  • Research, write, edit and produce internal and external corporate communications in collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Research and develop of stories about providers, members and staff.
  • Develop customized materials for identified target audiences.
  • P romote the profile of the "company behind the brand" both internally and externally.
  • Monitor, research and write for multiple social media channels, websites and other digital channels.
  • Manage media distribution and tracking; work with manager to pitch stories to the media.
  • Draft news releases and other content for the news media.
  • Coordinate with the press and to arrange interviews for company spokespeople; help prepare clients for press conferences, media interviews and speeches.
  • Draft and/or proofread Coordinate with the manager in managing the organization’s response to negative publicity (crisis management).


Copy Writing

  • Write clear and concise copy for ads, brochures, direct mail, fliers, newsletters and other forms of advertising and marketing materials.
  • Work toward developing and maintaining a clear and consistent brand/campaign voice.
  • Work with translators to produce multilingual versioning.


Market Research

  • Synthesize market data to develop customized materials for targeted audiences.
  • Analyze data to determine what makes benefits and services appealing to consumers.
  • Work with internal teams to identify member and clinic/community partner needs.
  • Research competitors and remain abreast of market trends.


Campaign Development and Participation

  • Work with CareOregon’s Marketing Manager, CCO leadership, internal staff and outside agencies to produce effective marketing campaigns.
  • Work with the internal creative team, vendors and people in production companies including designers, illustrators, printers and photographers to help develop campaigns.
  • Work with the Marketing Manager to develop multimedia presentations (PowerPoint, Prezi, etc.) as needed.


Planning

  • Work with CareOregon’s Marketing Manager and CCO leadership on short and long-term planning efforts.
  • Work closely with Marketing and Communications management on social media strategy and execution.

Education and/or Experience

Minimum 3 years’ writing and marketing or communications experience using a variety of media and formats required (e.g. print ads, television, radio, digital ad banners, website content, social media, blog posts and direct mail.) Health care communications experience preferred.
