We all need polly

There seems to be an uplift in the air .Perhaps everyone is affected by the lighter days, the hint of sun,the promise of spring.

I guess that we have all learnt the value of communication during lockdown. I am celebrating the promise of the launch of@ POLLY charity helpline for girls and women due soon in Manchester UK with a plan for a national service in the pipeline. Please look them up on social media and support if you can

Polly's helpline

"Our aim is to be a nationwide helpline to support women and girls across the UK. To start, we want to launch a 3-month pilot in Greater Manchester, providing a free helpline and webchat service for women, girls, and those self-identifying as female, from the age of 13 and up. We’d provide information, support and signpost to local Greater Manchester charities as well as national women’s services. You can go to our Greater Manchester page to find out more.

Because there are times in all of our lives when things go wrong. People we love get sick or die. Relationships go bad. Maybe we drink too much. Money problems, work. Life's not simple.

Our helpline will be free and confidential. Staffed by women, to serve as their first port of call. A helpline to provide information and, if appropriate, signpost and connect callers with services offering specific support.

We aren't here to replace existing women's organisations or charities - we're here to work with them. To share our knowledge and add Polly's voice to theirs. To get women and girls the support they need.

With your help, we can do it.

During social isolation, women are experiencing greater mental health pressures than ever. As prime carers, the mental toll of homeschooling, paying the bills, ensuring there's enough food and worrying about how to protect their loved ones is astronomical. Many are on the frontline as nurses and doctors.

We want Polly to be there as a pressure valve, to listen, signpost, give comfort. The mental health issues of a world pre- COVID19 are pale in comparison to the struggles of women and girls

today and in the difficult period ahead.

While there are dedicated helplines for men, children, elderly people

and those with mental and physical issues - there is still not a dedicated helpline for women and girls.

We need a helpline for women.

We need a helpline for women.

A safe place which women can turn to, to chat about anything

The project was started by Jane Powell and Susan Shinman who, through their work with CALM, a helpline for men and boys, identified the need for a helpline for women. The creative agency Truant have worked tirelessly with Jane and the board to give this project a name, a face, and create compelling campaign work; supporting the fundraising required to make Polly a reality. Since then, we've brought women with us who have helped push this vision forward.

We hope you'll join us and make this helpline a reality. "

Thanks for the support 💛 Cephas Williams we're looking to launch the 1st dedicated women's helpline & webchat to support all girls, women & self-identifying females. The shocking & saddening stats show that the self - harm & suicide rates of young women are at the highest levels in the past 2 decades. We want to offer a free & confidencial space to support these and every woman & girl in the UK.
