Roger Federer ‘a little bit torn’ by Andy Murray success at European Open

Roger Federer admitted his allegiances were torn when Andy Murray beat Stan Wawrinka in the European Open final. Murray underwent hip resurfacing surgery earlier this year and has been on a long road to recovery. The Brit made a huge step towards full fitness by proving he still has the credentials to win ATP titles. The three-time Grand Slam winner came from a set down to beat Swiss star Wawrinka on Sunday.

And Federer admitted he was unsure who he wanted to win the showdown. "I was a little bit torn, since he beat Stan in the final, but it was a great way for him to come back." Despite his fellow countryman's loss, Federer was still pleased for Murray.

"He's been playing to try and get close to his old level,” Federer added. "It's nice to see Andy healthy again. I remember in the locker room of the Australian Open. "It was very confusing for him and for all of us. I'm extremely happy for him.” Meanwhile, Wawrinka was also delighted to see Murray return to top form.
