Melanie Sykes, 48, showcases her washboard abs and gym-honed figure as she sunbathes in a red bikini

She recently lifted the lid on the secrets behind her toned figure, crediting her health to yoga and her teetotal lifestyle.

And Melanie Sykes showed off the fruits of her labour as she flaunted her washboard abs whilst posing for a snap she shared via Instagram on Friday.

The TV and radio presenter, 48, looked sensational in a red bikini as she relaxed on a lobster-print towel and sunbathed in the garden as she made the most of Britain's summer heatwave.

Opting for minimal make-up, Melanie displayed her naturally radiant complexion and wore her cropped tresses in a straight fashion.

Her bright ensemble accentuated her sun-kissed skin, and she shielded her eyes from the summer sun by wearing stylish shades.

Gushing about her retreat, the fitness fanatic wrote in the caption: 'Given myself a well needed day off from  with the wonderful  the worlds your lobster.'

Her post comes after she spoke to Your Fitness about hitting the gym for its benefits on her well-being, rather than her physical health.

She told the magazine: 'Fitness keeps me mentally happy, and it's an investment into my old age.

'Starting training in my 30s has definitely paid off in my 40s, and I'm hoping to keep myself fit and healthy with the right foods and exercise so that I have energy and am content into my later years.'

'It affects every single element of my life. It makes me a better mother, it makes me more patient and I think it just makes you a better person if you're healthy.'

The brunette credits her figure to two yoga sessions a week, and cutting dairy and alcohol from her diet - although chocolate still remains her vice.

Melanie wrote on her website: 'I pretty much stopped drinking around my 45th birthday after reading Amelia Freer’s Eat. Nourish. Glow. book.

'I was hitting a milestone age and really wanted to clean up my diet and start focusing on my health more. I was already training and sort of healthy, but I wanted to go to the next level.

'I would still have the occasional blow out with mates, but more recently I thought I would stop entirely and see how it goes.'
