As Ella Blake, a young woman with remarkable stop-motion animation talents, helps her mother—a well-known personality in the industry—finish her last film while battling arthritis, Aisling Fransciosi plays the part. Ella and her mother have a complicated relationship; Ella feels that her mother manipulates her with her rigorous methods, which reminds her of how she controlled her characters. Ella wants freedom and new tasks, but she finds it difficult to think of creative ideas. Following a devastating incident, Ella relocates to an empty flat with the help of her devoted boyfriend Tom in order to complete her mother's film and follow her own creative goals.
