South Toms River drive-by shooting: Investigators need your help

SOUTH TOMS RIVER - Borough police and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office are seeking leads on a drive-by shooting on Charles Drive Wednesday night.

Gunshots were reported around 7 p.m. on the 100 block of Charles, according to a prepared statement from Bryan Huntenburg, a spokesman for Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer, on Thursday afternoon.

"Thankfully, no one was hurt even though this gunfire occurred in the middle of a residential neighborhood," Billhimer said in the statement. "Detectives have been working through the night to determine who is responsible."

Investigators recovered bullets and shell casings at the scene, Huntenburg said.

The prosecutor's office asked anyone with information to call them at 732-929-2027 or borough police Detective Timothy Meier at 732-349-0313 ext. 112.

"The South Toms River Police Department will have extra patrols in the area," Huntenburg said.
