Liverpool and Tottenham distance themselves from Bruno Fernandes move, paving way for Man United

Manchester United have moved into pole position to sign Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes after Liverpool and Tottenham distanced themselves from the Portuguese playmaker.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a stellar campaign with Sporting last season, as he guided them to two domestic trophies as their captain before helping his country win the first-ever Nations League.

His performances have caught the eye of England's top clubs but it is the Red Devils who now look most likely to sign him this window, according to the Express.

Fernandes has four years left on his current deal with the Portuguese side and could set back potential suitors £70million.

A deal is likely on the cards for United after Fernandes' agent, Miguel Pinho, was spotted in London earlier this week.

According Portuguese outlet O Jogo, via talkSPORT, Pinho flew into the capital on Wednesday to discuss a mega-money move to Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are known to be monitoring Fernandes as they seek to recruit two midfielders, one creative and one defensive, and asSportsmail revealedearlier this month, they were given a boost by news that Tottenham had distanced themselves from Fernandes.

Liverpool have followed Spurs in similar fashion leaving United a clear path to negotiate a big-money move.

The Red Devils have already lost Ander Herrera this summer, who will depart to PSG on a free transfer when his contract expires, leaving just goal-shy team-mates Jesse Lingard, Fred, Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira alongside Paul Pogba to offer firepower from midfield.

Solskjaer's conundrum has been furthered by the French World Cup winner's flirting with Real Madrid and Juventus, and after scoring 16 goals last term his departure would leave a creative and goal-scoring hole at the heart of United's midfield.
