NSW national park filled with vicious boobytrap by 'complete scumbag'

A deputy mayor has slammed a 'complete scumbag' for allegedly boobytrapping a trail in a popular national park.

Wollondilly deputy mayor Matt Gould took to Facebook on Friday to warn park-goers to be careful when adventuring in Thirlmere Lakes National Park, southwest of Sydney.

He shared an image of one of the traps - a wooden plank with nails hammered through.

The spiked side was upright, which could have created devastating damage.

'If you're visiting the area around Thirlmere Lakes over the next few weeks please pay extra attention to where you're going.'

'Some complete scumbag has been placing boobytraps on trails that could cause significant injury.'

Councillor Gould said that NSW Police and National Parks have been informed of the incident.

He went on to add: 'Makes my blood boil. Could kill someone if they landed on it the wrong way.'

Councillor Gould told Yahoo Australia he's been told of two traps in the area.

A NSW Police Rural Crime Facebook page noted earlier in the month that the Vulcan and Gurrang State Forests in the central-west of the state have also been boobytrapped in a similar fashion.
