Starbucks' Tie Dye Frappuccino Has Arrived

When it comes to social media marketing, Starbucks has mastered post-worthy products. From color-changing cups to the secret Mermaid Frappuccino, the company knows how to keep its audience engaged and clamoring for its next great innovation. In keeping with its on-going color blasted offerings, today the company announced its much-anticipated Tie Dye Frappuccino.

Tapping into the 70's throwback fashion trend, the Tie Dye Frappuccino designer, Paloma Carrington-Bataller, hopes the creation will remind buyers of what's best about summer.

"We wanted to create something that celebrates summer and really conveys it both visually and through flavor within the beverage," she said on the company's official blog. "We knew it had to make you smile at first sight and our Tie-Dye Frappuccino does all this! It's summer in a cup and something everyone can relate to; it takes you back to sunny warm days of summer spent at camp or with friends and family."

At its base, the Tie Dye Frappuccino begins life as a blended, tropical Crème Frappuccino which is a yellow-orange color. The beverage is then sprinkled throughout with dashes of powder in yellow, red and blue colors, which give the Frappuccino its unique tie-dyed appearance. The Tie Dye Frappuccino is then topped with a generous dollop of whipped cream and sprinkled with the colored powders. While the drink is extremely colorful, the ingredients used to make the vibrant tones are all natural, deriving their shades from red beet, turmeric, and spirulina. Since colored powder application will vary, each Tie Dye Frappuccino will have its own unique color patterns — much in the way that tie-dyed shirts vary in pattern and color variation.

Though the Tie Dye Frappuccino boasts naturally derived flavors and colors, it's not the best choice for the health conscious. With 400 calories in the 16 oz version and a whopping 58 grams of sugar, the Tie Dye Frappuccino definitely falls in the dessert category.

In terms of flavor, we aren't given any specifics, but according to Starbucks, the new Frappuccino has a "tropical fruit" flavor. This means it'll likely have a mango-pineapple base with a possible splash of orange or strawberry flavors mingled in. Theofficial ingredients list also notes that vanilla syrup is incorporated into the drink as well. Newsweek reached out to Starbucks for more details of the Tie Dye Frappuccino's specific flavor. Those who hope to jump on the Tie Dye Frappuccino bandwagon should jump quickly, as Starbucks confirmed the psychedelic offering will only be available for a "few days." The Tie Dye Frappuccino should be available in most Starbucks locations in the United States and Canada. If you aren't sure if your local Starbucks is offering the drink, it may be a good idea to call ahead first and see if it's available.
