A rare and endangered animal Red Panda is little known except in the wildlife circle. Despite similarity is appearance it is not closely related to the Giant Panda found in China. In India the animal is found in the wilds of Eastern India. Singalila Park is one place this animal can be found on tour while it can also be seen in Namdhapha in Arunachal Pradesh and Manas in Assam.


Red Panda is endangered in the IUCN Red List and the suffering is due to poaching and extensive habitat loss. The reddish brown fur, blackish under body and long shaggy tail distinguish it from the Giant Panda. Also called lesser panda or red bear cat it is roughly the size of house cat but with a longer body. It feeds of insects, rodents, birds and bamboo it is sedentary in the day time being nocturnal it moves in the night.


Though the species is found in China as well the Indian red panda is a genetic variant.
