At first glance, The Tiger's Apprentice Afdah seems like a major breakthrough for Asian representation in animated cinema solely based on its star-studded cast, which includes renowned Asian actors like Michelle Yeoh, Henry Golding, Lucy Liu, Sandra Oh, Bowen Yang, and Greta Lee. However, it becomes evident that the filmmakers dedicated most of their efforts to assembling an impressive ensemble, leaving little room for substantial investment in the film itself. As a result, the movie offers a few enjoyable moments and visually striking elements, but fails to overcome the overall mediocrity of its storytelling.
