Prince Harry Got Shit For Taking A Private Jet After Lecturing About Climate Change - 3 minutes read

Prince Harry fancies himself an environmental activist. Back in May, he went on Oprah’s Apple TV+ series The Me You Can’t See and said that climate change was one of the world’s most pressing issues. But last Thursday he figured it wasn’t that pressing and took a rich friend’s private jet from Aspen, CO to Santa Barbara, CA after playing in a charity polo match. I mean, charity is good. But private jet is bad. For the environment and for the prince’s image. To absolutely no one’s surprise, the British rags immediately labeled Harry a hypocrite. The Sun is snarkily calling him an “eco-warrior” and “woke royal.” Harry’s probably thinking, “Hmmm… The Woke Royal… can I steal that for the title of my memoirs?”

Apparently, the 20-seater private jet belongs to one of Harry’s “polo pals,” American businessman Marc Ganzi. The Sun reports that Harry took the private jet from Aspen, Colorado to his “18,671-square-foot mega-mansion” (just a subtle reminder that he’s much, much richer than you) in Santa Barbara. They helpfully point out that Harry took the two-hour flight home to “rejoin his wife Meghan and their two children.” So, yes, ultimately this is all Meghan Markle’s fault for existing in a location that isn’t Aspen.

Harry was in Colorado hosting a charity polo match for the charity Sentebale (of which he is a “co-founding patron”). The event helped raise $3.5 million for African children affected by HIV and AIDS. Harry recently announced he plans to donate $1.5 million of the proceeds of his upcoming memoir to the charity.

But back to Harry getting dragged for the private jet. Over the weekend royal author Tom Quinn commented on it as Prince Andrew probably said, “PHEW! Thank heavens everyone is talking about this instead of mummy letting me keep my military title.”

Dan Wootton of The Daily Mail tweeted that Prince Harry’s environmental activism should be “roundly ignored” cuz he’s a hypocrite (wait, so… fuck the environment?):

This isn’t the first time Prince Harry’s been called out for his private jet-setting. Back in 2019, he took four private jet trips in just 11 days. And one of them was to deliver a speech about climate change at Google’s “green summit” in Sicily. Back then Harry claimed he tried to balance out the effects of flying private by off-setting his CO2 emissions. He’s also insisted that 99% of his air travel is via commercial flights. So it looks like we caught him on a one-percenter day.

This is what Harry said back in May on the Apple TV+ show he appeared on/co-produced with Oprah (please note Oprah has been exclusively flying private since the early 90s):

“I believe even more that climate change and mental health are two of the most pressing issues that we’re facing.” “With kids growing up in today’s world, pretty depressing, right, depending on where you live, your home country is either on fire, it’s either underwater, houses or forests are being flattened.”

He’s right. All over the world, our forests and houses are being flattened… by kajillionaires’ private jets landing on top of them! Use a runway, ya gas-guzzling fat cats!
