Salvatore Forte lost both his parents to Covid earlier this year. A business owner, he is just one of many struggling through the pandemic in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, a racially and economically diverse neighbourhood a few miles from Manhattan with a population of around 80,000.

Now he is fighting to hold on to the brunch restaurant and gift store he operates on one of Bay Ridge's main streets.
