Sohail Khan says he wants son Nirvan to assist ‘Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi’, revea... - 3 minutes read

In India, cricket and Bollywood are more than just forms of entertainment and often play significant roles in the cultural fabric of the country. The two cultural phenomena are often intertwined. Therefore, it doesn’t come across as a surprise that a horde of Bollywood stars are good cricketers, too, including Salman Khan, according to brother Sohail Khan. In November 2023, the actor and Bigg Boss host were seen playing cricket with the housemates in the reality show when the country was gripped in World Cup fever.

Sohail, a part of the 10th season of Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), while speaking to Zoom TV, recalls his childhood days when the three brothers — Salman, Sohail, and Arbaaz Khan — would play cricket outside their Galaxy apartment in Mumbai. The actor-director revealed that Salman was the biggest fan of the sport. However, the stardom that followed his acting career overshadowed his love for the gentleman’s game. “I don’t know when this switch happened — from cricket to acting. Salman was a left-handed bowler and quite a good one at that. Amid overnight success after he ventured into films, cricket was forgotten. Despite loving sports and adventure, he was suddenly burdened with a lot of responsibilities — of his fans and taking care of himself — he had to tread with caution,” he shared.

He further adds that the siblings never fought over the sport, and they had a lot of fun playing cricket. “We had a long corridor where our father, who instilled the love for the game, would teach us batting. But Salman was the biggest sports lover in the family,” he reminisced.

Amid the buzz around Sohail’s son Nirvan making a career in films, Sohail confirmed that the 23-year-old is keen on joining the entertainment industry and becoming an actor. “Hopefully, he will soon start working with a director or actor,” said Sohail.

However, the Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya actor feels that his son should work closely with an actor instead of a director. “Agar aapko actor banana hai toh toh pata nahin kyun log director ke assistant ban jate hain. Senior actors must give junior and budding actors a chance to be around them and learn from them. I would love Nirvan to assist actors like Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, Shahid Kapoor, Nana Patekar to observe them and read lines with them,” said Sohail, adding that it is also imperative that he gets scolded by them. “Nirvan unke liye spot pe bhi khade rahe main aise sochta hoon (he would wait for them on the spot). If he works as an actor’s assistant, he will learn the craft better,” he concluded.
