Concepts’ Latest New Balance Collab Remembers the Curse of the Bambino - 3 minutes read

Concepts x New Balance 997S Fusion "ESRUC"

Editor’s Notes: Back alongside New Balance, this time Concepts works on a revamped version of the classic Made in USA 997, the 997S Fusion. The collaboration, dubbed “ESRUC,” hits close to home for the Massachusetts retailer, referencing the Boston Red Sox’s infamous 86-year title drought, and more specifically, the Curse of the Bambino when Babe Ruth was sent to the rival New York Yankees in 1920.

Digging deeper, the colorway of the Concepts x New Balance 997S Fusion “ESRUC” reflects the posters for the Broadway musical No, No, Nanette. It is said that Red Sox owner Harry Frazee sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees to fund the production.

Concepts’ New Balance 997S Fusion is done up in premium magenta-colored pig suede, detailed with orange accents and reflective hits. We then find the original 997 upper sitting atop a retooled midsole featuring New Balance’s ENCAP Reveal tooling. The sneaker comes with an extra set of laces, resting neatly in a specially designed Concepts box.

The Concepts x New Balance 997S Fusion “ESRUC” releases this Friday, June 28, exclusively at Patta London (6 Silver Pl, Soho, London W1F 0JS, UK) surrounding the first-ever MLB games taking place in Europe, between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees at London Stadium on June 29 and June 30.
