Efficiency is how David Fastuca lives his life. As the CMO and co-founder of Locomote – a business travel company that's built specifically to streamline a usually convoluted process – he knows a thing or two about working smarter.
"Everything I do, I try to be as efficient as possible," David tells Business Insider Australia. And given he does at least 20% of his job via his smartphone, he has a few hacks.
"I'm always on the run, always getting calls, emails, tasks, to get done. So, the phone is a key part of my day-to-day."
Here are David's top tips for being as productive as possible on your smartphone.
Smash through smaller tasks
Attempting to work on the go can be a big waste of time without a plan in place – or a quick network. David does it by tackling little bits and pieces on the fly from his smartphone so he can save time for bigger blocks of concentration at his desk.
"I use my smartphone for, obviously, getting a lot of email out of the way and done, planning my days, and getting thoughts out of my head – sending the notes back to myself," he explains.
He won't attempt his major tasks on the phone, seeing it as more of a strategic tool to allow him the time and space to achieve those bigger tasks for the day.
Three essential apps
Obviously, David's email app is number one in his go-tos. But what else?
"I'll definitely recommend for anyone that has a smartphone, a to-do list app," says David. "I personally use the app called Todoist."
And his last essential app is a classic: The no-frills notes app that comes on your smartphone.
"Nothing that has to be too complex," he says. "I find that the ones that have more functionality are the ones that often slow when you need to write a note in. So, just the standard notes app, I use, and I use regularly."
The new Samsung Galaxy S22 series offers the ultimate no-frills solution with an embedded S-Pen on the Galaxy S22 Ultra model, to precisely capture handwritten notes, annotate images, or edit documents on the go.
Routines over limits
David had dabbled in setting app limits on his smartphone, but these days he doesn't see the worth in it. While it has the guise of helping you stay productive, in practice, limits can add to your admin.
"I just try to be disciplined. When I'm working on a specific task, I'm making a note to not look at my phone," he says. "It's more about routines and habits that I've trained myself in, rather than limiting things on my phone. I still allow the notifications to come through, so I can just have a quick glance and see if it's important. If it's not then I know I can look at it later."
"Your most valuable thing is not money, it's time. Money, you can always make back. But the one thing you can't regain is time," says David. "The more efficient you are, the more time you have for the things that you love."
Advancements like the brighter display, all-day battery, and the faster processing of the new Galaxy S22 series allow you to stay on track with tasks and increase your productivity and efficiency.
