Instagram is bringing ads to Explore

Instagram is bringing ads to more places on its platform, starting with its Explore page according to a report from The Verge. The firm will show ads when users scroll down discovery feeds on Explore posts and it will be starting with ads for its IGTV service.

“Explore is where people are really open to discovery, and that’s why we’re really excited about this,” Susan Buckner Rose, director of business product marketing told The Verge. She says the team considers “the mindset where people are most receptive to advertising” and that the Explore page made for an obvious fit because it’s where “people come to discover new accounts or people or brands that they don’t already follow.”

Instagram was relatively ad-free as it grew, but now the firm seeks to monetize its user base and ads are the least bad option. At least in their current state.
